What Flowers are Best for a Beach Wedding on Kauai, Hawaii?

The short answer to this question could be “all of the above.” As a Kauai wedding photographer, we’ve probably seen them all, and there are very few places where you could go wrong.

Consider Tropical Flowers Native to Hawaii

There are many kinds of tropical flowers that grow abundantly in Hawaii, including orchids, plumerias and anthuriums. They are all gorgeous, and can be woven into leis, bouquets, haku floral headbands, and many other arrangements. One popular trend is to suspend flowers such as orchids from tree branches, along with hanging candles.

Most couples who marry in Hawaii like to use native flowers. One tradition is for the bride to wear an all-white lei made from white dendrobiums, with the groom’s being made from ti leaf or maile flowers. If you want to go a different route, mainland flowers such as roses are also available.

Choose Flowers That Will Stand Up Well In The Heat

You will need to use some discretion when choosing the right flowers, especially if your ceremony will take place during the warmer part of the day. Most flowers aren’t crazy about the hot sun, especially after they’ve been cut. Some varieties hold up to the heat better than others. For example, calla lilies, orchids, freesias, and succulents usually work well in the heat of the day. However, other types such as roses and hydrangeas tend to wilt faster.
